Welcome

We are excited to begin a new program year and be adding new scouts and their families. Parental participation “makes the pack go”, and there are many ways you can help. The scout program has many positions that must be filled every year. Some of these are leader positions and some are business positions. We are looking to fill some of the business positions - these are called committee positions. You can see where these positions fit in by this chart.

These positions are vital to your sons' program success. It allows your den leaders to do more den planning than pack planning and this will, by its self, help your son learn more and have fun while doing it.
We are going to break up this chart even further later on so you can see where you may be able to help the program, but lets talk about how much time is involved with these positions first. Our pack meets every Monday and this would be a good time for the committee members to plan to meet (once a month or every other week will usually work well) during your scout's den meeting.  Some of our activities will take more planning than others, for example: a trip to the courthouse for the tiger den may just involve time scheduling; meal provisions; and a letter to the parents. Whereas, other activities such as the Blue & Gold banquet will take a lot more planning, usually 3-6 months out. For this type of event, you will have to use the theme, set location, time, activities, program advancement or cross over ceremonies, menu and how we are going to acquire the items necessary for the event. These are some of the things required for an event such as the Blue & Gold banquet. As you can see, there are differences in the required time for planning these two activities. There is also some minimal training involved in these committee positions. This training will help you understand everything that is needed to plan the pack’s program, but just remember you will not be doing this all alone. You will have the leaders, cub master, assistant cub master and chartered representative for resources.

What does each committee do?
(This is just a brief description)

Outdoor/Camping
There are many different parts, so lets start with a big one, camping. Camping is a big part of the scouting experience so let’s keep the "outing in scouting". There are 2 council events every year called Cub Parent Weekends. There is not a lot that you will have to plan for these. Some of the things include: short games for the boys when there are no scheduled activities, food, and a campfire program. There will also be other camping trips that will require a little more planning as these will be pack camping trips. We do our best to have one or two of these every year. The planning for these trips is somewhat different. These trips require the same planning as for cub parent weekend, but your committee will also have to plan the scheduled activities. Other camping trips will be Webelos overnighters. Your committee will work with the Webelos leaders on this planning because these will also take in to consideration what their dens are working on at the time of the camping trip.

Outings/Special events
Another big thing is to plan the den & pack outings. These will be day trips where the boys go to see a play, or to a museum or something to that affect. This planning should include times for departure & arrival, food, cost, and who is going to be responsible for each part of the trip. We also have some special events such as the pack Christmas party, Blue & Gold Banquet and Conservation projects to name a few. These events will take special planning, some of which may include:  food, table covers, tools, and schedules for starters.
Secretary
This position keeps track of what resources we have and what we need to work on getting.  They will also help the new den leaders buy telling them about the resources available. A person in this position also helps to keep the records on all membership and leadership for the pack. They will also help with reservations or writing letters of appreciation and keep notes of business discussed at the leaders meetings and keep everyone informed of up coming meetings.
Treasurer
This position will include planning for fundraisers, keeping the books on the money we have and how we are spending the money we have or how we spent the money we had.

Membership
This position will work on recruiting new scouts, new leaders and new committee members. They will plan our recruiting dates and will work with the secretary on keeping records of the scouts, leaders and committee members we have.

All of these positions work with the Committee Chairman, Leaders, and the Charter Representative. They will also work with each other.
